Weight & Balance
Weight FWIW, I weighed my rocket today. It came in at 1241lbs (approx). Considering the temperfoam cushions, floor carpet ,bizarre avionics, hooker harness, and heavy Hartzell prop that seems ok. Anyone know how much a nice paint job weighs (base/clear coat)? Warmest regards, Bob Gross Hey Bob: I'd wag that at about 35-40 lbs, depending on how thick ya spray it on. With a before weight, you'll actually have some dependable data! Cheers Mark I did my weight and balance today. It came in at 1196 lbs without paint, all other equipment installed. Based on my two HRIIs this plane is about 35lbs heavier. When you take away the extra weight of the three blade prop, 20lbs, and some misc equipment the F1 is about 12 lbs heavier than an HRII with the same equipment. The tail weight of the F1 was 54 lbs as compared with 30 and 35 lbs for my HRIIs. I have not yet done the C of G calculations but based on the prop is should be more forward. Included is a pic of the plane on the scales in a level attitude in the shop, the tail is up a long ways... The wheel pants had been weighed before this picture was taken and are included in the above empty weight. My inspection is booked later this month. Tom
Hi Fellas: Bottom line time here: you need to keep in mind that taking weight out of the back end of the ship can have a negative impact, but it depends on how your ship is equipped! Generally, lighter is better, but the ship has to stay in balance. So,....You CAN use the PC680 IF you can maintain a min tail weight of 50LBS. This weight is measured in the level attitude, and it certainly increases in the 3 pt attitude.I suspect this min weight alllowance will exclude those with lotsa bells & whistles incorporated with a Hartzell 3 blade. Likely those opting for the MT can use the lighter batttery no matter what equipment level they choose. Remember: 50 LBS min tail weight! We have the screw-in type terminals on our battery. Workin' good so far! And, I do know some 125 lb pilots I'd let fly my plane. The balance sheet shows she would be in the proper CG Carry on! Mark
